Just What Is a Periodontist?

There are many different specialty fields within the world of dentistry, and so it's not hard to see how your average person wouldn't know what a periodontist is. However, if you're looking for the best possible smile, this is one area of dentistry that you don't want to ignore!

So just what is a Cedar Park cosmetic dentistry? Put in simple terms, a periodontist is a dentist who actually specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and then treatment of periodontal disease. They also are experts in placing dental implants, which makes them invaluable for a wide range of different dental health treatments.

The reason this field is so specialized is because a certified periodontist will take on three more years of dental training beyond basic dental school in order to get this special certification. That means the full college degree, dental school, and then more advanced dental schooling. In other words, that's a dental professional who is going to know their stuff inside and out.

Anyone who is having teeth replaced with implants will almost certainly see one of these specialists at some point as it's critical the spacing is done right and that any issues with receding gum lines or how the teeth fit together to bite in the mouth will need to be dealt with before making the implants.

Having a professional dentist who can handle these specific areas of treatment will increase the chances of a successful implant and can sometimes even help make the mouth bite more cleanly than before.

In addition to this, patients who have had issues with severe inflammation will be glad to know that periodontists have their back with that particular area, as well. Since they know how inflammation can affect the rest of the mouth and even help infections spread to other parts of the body, they can help with treatments that make inflammation less of a problem or even spot when that's simply a symptom of a much larger issue that is hiding underneath the surface.

In other words, they are specialists whose expertise stretches to a number of very specific and very sensitive dental needs. Because of this, they are invaluable when either taking the lead in dental treatment or even being hit up as a consult.

While many lay people might not understand the important role these specialists play in the dental health world, there's no question they will continue to contribute with their badly needed specialized skills.

Had To Find A New Dentist Because Of Insurance Changes

My husband got laid off from his job and there was no hope in him getting called back. He was able to collect unemployment for a few months but had to find another job and get back to work. This meant changes in his insurance. I started having problems with my teeth shortly after he got back to work. Luckily he had insurance from the time he started working.

I had to find a new dentist though because my old one wasn't covered in the plan. I had to find out which general dentistry was covered in his plan so I could get to the dentist and get my tooth taken care of. I was able to easily find a general dentistry Cedar Park dentist that was covered in our dental plan. I called and they were able to get me in quickly. Our insurance paid 100 percent of the bill. I ended up having to get a tooth pulled because it was beyond being repaired. Thank goodness we had insurance from the time he started working and that it paid for all the work I had to have done too. I'm also thankful I didn't have to wait long for an appointment.
